Jim is a seasoned financial professional with over 35 years’ experience focused on business operations in the wine industry, technology and start-up companies. Jim has held positions as President, COO, CFO and Controller for numerous companies throughout his career. Jim likes to focus on business operations and leans on his manufacturing and “best practices” training to achieve significant gains in efficiency and cost reductions for his clients.
Over the course of his career Jim has established an extensive network of contacts geographically, within industries and within professions. Understanding the importance of cash flow and working capital requirements in the wine industry, Jim has helped many clients improve their cash position and through his banking contacts has helped clients renew or establish loan packages that support the cash requirements for their growing business.
Jim began his career with Carlson Companies in 1979 (a Fortune 100 Company headquartered in Minneapolis, MN) before moving West and settling in the Napa Valley.
Darren brings over 18 years of accounting, finance, and operations consulting experience to Carbonneau Williams. He has expertise in accounting, financial planning, modeling and forecasting, as well as company strategy and operations. Darren has extensive experience as an advisor and investor. He understands the financial, operational, and marketing complexities of company management, and helps clients develop, evaluate, and execute on strategic plans to achieve their goals – be it sustained, continuously-owned operations, growth through acquisition, restructuring, or seeking outside investments or exits.
Darren started his career as a business advisory and risk consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers in the US and in China, where he worked for over 11 years. As an entrepreneur and advisor, Mr. Buck has successfully funded, advised, launched, and grown a number of diverse business ventures.
Darren is a licensed CPA in the US (California) and is a US Certified Fraud Examiner. He received his BS in Accounting from Marquette University and his International MBA from Rutgers University, Beijing Campus.
In addition to being a for-profit-business advisor, Darren actively serves on multiple not-for profit boards and finance committees.
Paul has over 30 years of continued career progression as a distinguished leader and strategic thinker known for driving financial excellence and growth. Paul has held a diverse range of roles throughout his career including Accountant, Controller, Director, Chief Financial Officer, and President. He brings extensive experience across several industries, including wine industry, information technology services, commercial and residential construction, integrated security services and global investment management.
With his strong background as a skilled Certified Public Accountant and extensive knowledge of GAAP, he has consistently demonstrated his ability to provide accurate financial reporting and ensure adherence to accounting standards across various financial scenarios.
Previously, Paul served as President of a global information technology company, where he developed, implemented and managed the company's strategic plan, fostering a collaborative culture of high performance and adherence to the company’s core values. Paul is a seasoned executive with a comprehensive background in managing multifaceted organizational functions. Paul's experience is extensive, encompassing oversight of Accounting, Finance, Legal, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, and Facilities Management.
Kathleen has provided high level accounting and controller services to wineries and vineyards for over 25 years, and has over 30 years of comprehensive finance, accounting, management and human resource experience. Among her clients are some very prestigious wineries and vineyards, many of whom have been clients for well over a decade.
Her financial experience and skills include comprehensive accounting, human resources, compliance, trust accounting, audits and general business management and administration. She has supported clients in numerous workers comp and sales tax audits. This ability stems from a focus on internal systems, organization and diligence. Kathleen’s limitless energy and resourcefulness has also led her to successfully advocate for the disadvantaged.
Kathleen started her career managing an elite Inn in the Napa Valley, where she gained hands on experience in personnel development and HR compliance, as well as P&L and general management oversight. She also served as a Financial Analyst for a leading investment firm in Silicon Valley before returning to the Napa Valley. She is passionate about singing, tennis and skiing and has recently picked up the lifelong hobby of learning to play golf.
Miguel joined Carbonneau Williams in May 2019 and brings over 10 years of accounting experience, covering various roles from the Junior Accountant to Controller. His early accounting years included time spent in the Restaurant industry where he handled full-charge bookkeeping for various accounts.
His career in the Wine Industry has been as Controller for small to medium size wineries, which has allowed him to become familiar with all aspects of the wineries operations (from accounting, HR and compliance to sales and marketing). Miguel recognizes that interaction in all functional areas provides good insight and judgement when working with management on budgets and forecasts. With Spanish as his primary language, he has been able to break the barrier with Cellar, Production and Farm workers to more clearly understand and meet their needs.
Miguel received his Business Administration Degree, focusing in Accounting, from Sonoma State University. When not working Miguel enjoys time with his family, and/or volunteering. He is a soccer aficionado and is always involved with either playing the game or coaching and mentoring his son’s teams.
Cindy moved to the Napa Valley over 10 years ago and has over 12 years of bookkeeping and accounting experience, mostly within the wine industry. She received her BBA degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX, with a major in Marketing and is passionate and committed to aiding small business owners with their financial needs. Cindy has developed strong professional business relations in the Valley through her professionalism, positive attitude and attention to detail.
Cindy works daily managing cash flow, accounts receivable and accounts payable for multiple clients, providing them forecast information to manage their cash requirements throughout the year. Prior to her career in accounting, Cindy gained in-depth knowledge in hospitality and customer service, which she utilizes daily when interacting with her clients, their employees and outside parties.
Cindy stays actively involved volunteering in her community and spends her free time enjoying the outdoors and activities with her family.
Emily graduated from the University of Puget Sound earning majors in both economics and business administration and started her career in accounting and finance with Carbonneau Williams in early 2018. Emily maintains the daily transactional activity for the majority of our clients and has a strong grasp of systems and procedures, including several integrated Aps designed to achieve significant efficiencies for our clients’ operations.
Emily received her notary commission earlier in 2019. She also volunteers with Up-Valley Family Center doing taxes and passed the first of the enrolled agent exams.
Emily enjoys hiking, swimming, and spending time with friends and family, including her dog, Maggie
